ALEWA IV: RELIGION VERSUS MORALITY (PREVIEW)

ALEWA IV: RELIGION VERSUS MORALITY (PREVIEW)

The debate has been raging on for centuries amongst scholars, thinkers, atheists, religious heads and ordinary people. The crux of the debate has been on the contentious question of “WHICH COMES FIRST’’ and “WHICH DEFINES WHAT?” The subject in contention is: MORALITY and RELIGION.
This controversial and curious question has often provoked heated bouts with no loser or winner. The advocates of this religious stance have argued that, the commandments of God form the basis of religion. Religion has, since creation, defined and continues to define the (in) actions of mankind, including the question of morality. That is, religion is like parenthesis; it falls before and after our lives.
The proponents of the moralists view point argue that morality is the foundation on which religion rest. According to them, God gave Man morals and not religion. God’s first rule to Adam and Eve, in the Garden of Eden was one of morality and not religion (Don’t eat from the tree of life and death). Whatever mechanism God employed in handling the two individuals was one of moral suasion.
The issue of religion and morality will dominate this month’s ALEWA III. The organizers will seek to define, construct and attempt to put in perspective the religion-morality arguments. Poets and Spoken-wordists will slug it out: word by word; diction by diction; reason by reason; and argument by argument.  .
And who else could the organizers invite as special guest than JESU KOBI CRENTSIL. JESU is one of the organizers of MZone, a poetry platform whose focus is on the subject/ issues of morality and religion. Mr. Kofi Akpabli, the award winning author/journalist will grace the occasion by reading some pieces from his books as well.
Alewa IV will witness trade-off of ideas, questioning dogmas of yore times whilst affirming the fact that religion and morality form a canopy on which humanity walks.
And as with any other events organized by People Of Equal Thoughts and Spirit (P.O.E.T.S), this promises to be as controversially exhilarating as the subject under poetry dissections.
The event will come off at SyTris Bookshop, located in the Mark- Coffie Building at Osu, opposite Papaye Restaurant on the 14th of July, 2012. Time is 6:00pm PROMPT.
